The Prostate Working Group, is led by physicians, Dr. Bob Dess (Michigan Medicine/MROQC Coordinating Center) and Dr. Dave Heimburger (Munson Medical Center), and medical physicist, Dr. Dale Litzenberg (Michigan Medicine/MROQC Coordinating Center). This working group launched as a pilot initiative in July 2020 and has since expanded to include the larger Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (in 2021). The Prostate Group is working to minimize overutilization of unnecessary resources in localized prostate to advance value-based care.
Areas of Current & Ongoing Focus:
- Increase usage of active surveillance in patients with low risk disease
- Increase usage of guide concordant, cost effective radiation forms of radiation
- Decrease unnecessary hormone therapy administration and pelvic lymph node radiation
- Appropriate usage of staging scans
