About us

MROQC’s work is carried out by a multidisciplinary group of clinicians, medical physicists, dosimetrists, data coordinators and administrators at multiple hospitals across the state of Michigan. A Coordinating Center for the project, housed at the University of Michigan, provides the required infrastructure for the project including database development and support, data analysis, meeting planning and overall project management.

Coordinating Center

The MROQC Coordinating Center is led by the following individuals:

Lori J. Pierce, MD, Project Director; Lori Pierce is Professor of Radiation Oncology and Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs at the University of Michigan. She maintains an active clinical practice treating patients with breast cancer, and is a national leader in breast cancer research.

James Hayman, MD, Project Co-director; Jim Hayman is Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan. His clinical practices involves the treatment of breast and lung cancer. He is a national leader of quality improvement efforts in radiation oncology, serving as the Chair of the ASTRO Task Force on Quality Care.

Jean Moran, PhD, Project Assistant Director; Jean Moran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan, and she oversees the clinical physics activities in the department. She has strong interests in quality assurance and patient safety and her research activities have been focused on the deliverability and accuracy of advanced technology.

Cindy Wegryn, BSN, Project Senior Manager; Cindy is a Project Senior Manager in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from University of Michigan, and has been employed at the University of Michigan for 8 years in various roles related to nursing and departmental administration.

MROQC was created and is sustained through generous ongoing funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN). This funding significantly reduces barriers for Michigan hospitals wishing to participate in – and benefit from – the initiative. With funding from the Blues, hospitals and other health care organizations across Michigan are collecting, sharing, and analyzing data to improve patient care and outcomes.
